The football club added to its rich history over the weekend with our All Abilities side playing their very first game against North Beach at Charles Riley Reserve. After coming together only six weeks ago, the team has formed a close bond, showcasing a true team spirit and comradery.

Heading out onto the field, it was a moment that will be remembered for years to come with fourteen players bursting with pride in the green and blue. There was a total of six players who had never played a game of AFL before but that didn’t stop them giving it their all. Every tackle, kick and cheer was filled with passion, matched by the overwhelming support from the UFC community on the sidelines.

Led by head coach and former player, Patty Wilson, the players embraced what it means to be apart of a team.

“It was as good of an introduction to the football club and All Abilities competition that we could have asked for”.

Patty has been apart of Wembley’s very successful integrated program and knows what it takes to help bring people together.

“Although we fell short on the scoreboard, the effort was there for all four quarters”.

“It was just amazing to see the program come together and all of the players out on the park having a great time”.

There have been many great UFC people who have helped bring the All Abilities team together, but special mention goes out to club legends such as John Rock, Steve Munday & John Busby. Their passion and generosity has allowed the program to get off the ground.

Inaugural team sponsor, John Busby (Budget Car & Truck Rental), jumped at the opportunity to get involved.

“From 210 games and four premierships to helping build the Neil Donaldson Pavilion in honour of the man who inspired my journey, I’ve witnessed the club grow and evolve. Becoming the inaugural sponsor of our newly formed Integrated Team is one of the proudest moments of all”.
