The Uni Footy community launched NAIDOC week on Saturday at home on Wadjuk Noongar Boodja country.
The theme for 2023 is For our Elders, which encourages us to pay our respects to the Elders we have lost and to those who continue fighting across all our Nations.
We were lucky enough to welcome Noongar leaders Daniel and Johnny Garlett to McGillivray Oval for a special pre-game ceremony. Players from our C2 and A Grade Women sides joined together with the opposition from Trinity Aquinas and Wembley around the freshly painted centre circle.
The traditional Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony was a spectacular experience for everyone in attendance. It was a reminder of the importance of our connection to the land and the people that have come before us.
Our home teams this week donned our Indigenous Jumper which was created a couple of years ago by former player Tyson McEwan. The A-Stream and Peacocks will wear the design in their games next weekend.
